Everyone knows that commercial tires take a beating and not just from long days and hard miles, but from nails and other debris they may pick up! How Does Flat Proofing Work?

  • Flat proofing solutions for commercial tires use a liquid tire sealant composed of polymers and fibers (including DuPont Kevlar) which spread to the entire lining of the tire by centrifugal force as the tire spins. The material is pumped into the tire through the valve stem and remains in a semi-liquid form. In the event of a puncture, thousands of tiny, strong fibers close over to seal the hole and prevent any air from escaping.
  • Foam fill material is also used for flat proofing tires, which provides the advantage of improved ride quality for the vehicle. Some foam fill flat proofing materials are oil-based, while others are derived from natural sources.
  • Flat proofing materials offer protection from sidewall punctures as well as damage to the tire's tread area, and are impervious to temperature extremes and air pressure.
  • Flat proofing materials can protect against punctures as large as 3/8" in diameter, including nails, glass, wire, screws and (in some cases) even bullets.
